When Lt. Gen. Cleveland saw two Marlin B-10 bombers land in a field near his home, he ran "up to the field and climbed all over the airplanes," thus even as a young child, fueling his love with aviation. Cleveland went on to West Point and to a remarkable career in the Air Foce, with decades as an Air Force fighter pilot and commander on the frontlines of defense in the Cold War, Korea and Vietnam Wars.
