According to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 2 million patients in the United States acquire a healthcare-associated infection in the hospital each year, and about 90,000 of these patients die because of their infection. Infections are also a complication of care in other settings including long term care organizations, clinics, and dialysis centers.
