Description
According to my research, victims of domestic violence believe that they deserve to be abused, and as a result they feel helpless and unable to change their situations as related to their low self-worth, lack of income, and lack of employment. The researcher found that abused women with formal education and a full-time job are more able to leave the abusive situation by taking charge of their lives, by making the necessary changes within themselves to stop the abuse, and focusing on the family’s needs in the area of housing and a safe environment. Keeping the family together helped the abused women to display an increase of positive self-confidence and self-esteem. The researcher conducted a series of open-ended, face-to-face interviews with twenty-five women who are in abusive relationships. The finding was that individuals who were educated seem to be able to eliminate some forms of domestic violence and move on with their lives.
