Tax Collectors and Other Sinners covers the career of a revenue officer in the IRS, from his start in September, 1972, to his retirement in 2004. The author describes the various positions he held during that time, while enhancing the narrative with anecdotal stories of events that transpired as he moved up the career ladder. While telling his story, he also provides a simplified explanation of how the IRS works--what to do and what not to do--if you owe income and/or payroll taxes. Mr. Sylvain also highlights his accomplishments while working for the agency, and the recognition he received for these improvements to the tax collection system; culminating in the awarding of the Collection Silver Star, one of the top awards in the IRS collection function.
