Legacy of "The Cause": An Alternative History Novel of the American Civil War

The story opens during the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg on July 2, 1863. Through a strange turn of events, the Lincoln administration is forced to negotiate a peace treaty with the Confederate government in Richmond. With the war all but over and peace restored to the war-torn South, political events unfold that threaten to renew the hostilities. When word of a plot to topple the fledgling Confederate States of America reach the newly elected President of the United States, the realization that the ramifications of this plot threaten his own administration prompts him to suggest a bold and unorthodox strategy to meet their common enemy head on. Throughout their struggles, friendships will be tested and reaffirmed, old wounds re-opened, and old wrongs will finally be made right. Who will prevail and who will discover the price to be paid for treachery?
