Joe Sacco, born in Brooklyn, New York, currently resides in Montgomery County, Maryland with his wife, five boys and two rescue shelties. He was a science teacher and principal in Montgomery County, Maryland. Currently, he is the Associate Director of Education for Friends of the National Zoo in Washington DC. He was inspired to write this book after a trip to Churchill, Canada. During this trip, he met a large male bear, Dancer.
