Anais Butt and the Hairy-Handed Gent

When seventeen-year-old Anais Butt is expelled from her fifth boarding school in three years, her parents exile her to the isolated mountain town of Glenorie to labour for her child-hating maternal grandmother, Nanny Pam and her hostile cousin, Josephine, who operate a riding school. Just before she leaves, Anais meets Shannon, a handsome young man who has befriended Anais's paternal grandmother, Nanny Bette. Anais is scared of him and drawn to him in equal measure, and she's disconcerted when he follows her all the way to Glenorie. There, Shannon reveals that he's being pursued by police in relation to a crime he did not commit. Anais wants to believe him, but when a German backpacker goes missing and another is horribly mauled near Glenorie, she can't help but suspect Shannon. The mystery deepens as Anais sets about investigating the crime herself. She makes a series of alarming discoveries about her past and present. She's in love with Shannon, but perhaps it's time for Anais to grow up.
