2013-2014 Basic and Clinical Science Course, Section 2: Fundamentals and Principles of Ophthalmology

Provides the essential scientific grounding for current ophthalmic practice. Discusses ocular anatomy, embryology, the biochemistry and metabolism of the eye and the latest developments in eye-related molecular and clinical genetics studies. Contains information about ocular pharmacotherapeutics, updated drug information and a discussion of the legal aspects of medical therapy.

Upon completion of Section 2, readers should be able to:
*Identify the bones making up the orbital walls and the orbital foramina,
*Identify the origin and pathways of cranial nerves I VII,
*Identify the origin and insertions of the extraocular muscles,
*List the varied functions of the retinal pigment epithelium such as phagocytosis and vitamin A metabolism and their relationship to retinal diseases,
*Describe the features of the eye that facilitate or impede drug delivery.
