Human Rights in the Post 9/11 World

Human Rights in the Post 9/11 World draws on the insights of top scholars in law, political science, and philosophy from across the international community to explore four broad questions: How have definitions of warfare and the legal and philosophical restraints on violence that have emerged around war changed since 9/11? What are the broader implications of these changes for international human rights law? To what extent have these changes altered domestic human rights practices? What can we predict about the future of the international human rights regime? Four thematic sections address: 9/11 and changing definitions of warfare 9/11 s impact on international law The relationship between freedom from terror and other human rights Human rights and international organization since 9/11. The work also includes a list of key U.S. anti-terror laws and cases impacting human rights, the text of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), and the Statement of the Task Force from The Report of the Constitution Project s Task Force on Detainee Treatment (2013).
