Education Sector of Southern Punjab (Pakistan): A Multidimentional Perspective

Education is the most imperative asset for the development of any country and its significance is noteworthy. Education is the indispensable human right that provides the means for development of nations. Every individual and citizen have right to live, speak, and write. It is the primary responsibility of the government to make sure that all citizens get the basic fundamental educational rights at their doorstep. History has witness that no nation has been able to accelerate in terms of development without taking into consideration these aims as prerequisite. Education is the basic human right that provides the tool for the development of nations. Pakistan is one of the developing countries that are striving for improvement in area of education. Education augments the socio-political and economic adjustment of an individual in the society. The structure of education sector is imperative in understanding the significance of educational attainment. There are many factors that hinder the process of development in education sector of Pakistan. These obstructions may be of socio-political, cultural and economic in nature. The education sector of Pakistan is most neglected sector due to which it hampers the process of development. Numerous socio-political and economic impediments in education sector diminishes its effectiveness. These obstructions are lack of resources, improper infrastructure, lack of well designed curriculum, cultural tenets, underinvestment in education sector, low quality teachers training and obstinate socio-cultural practices. The quality of education in Pakistan is very squat due to wastage of resources, grade repetitions, low enrollment rate of students and their high dropout rates. Other factors are lack of proper school arrangements, long distances from schools, poverty, prejudices, stereotypic expectations from Muslim girls, restricted movement of girls, poor roads, limited transportation, unsafe traveling, lack of female teachers, teachers absenteeism and traditional patterns that restricts the girls to acquire education. On the demand side poverty, low parental education, gender discrimination and long distance from schools are the major barricades. On the supply side shortage of girls schools and poor quality teachers are the foremost obstacles to girls education. High dropout rate from schools is the major stumbling block in the development of education sector in Pakistan. This book is divided into six chapters that depict various aspects of education sector. In addition to this the researcher also finds out assorted impediments related to various aspects of education sector that lowers the quality of education. This book also bestows a concise review of the progressive measures, incentive schemes and education policy making for the development of education sector.
