Professor Cat's Guide to Science Volume I

Professor Cat's Guide to Science Volume I is the first in a series of children's science books that introduces advanced scientific topics to children ages five and up. Professor Cat "trims the fat" from science writing and only uses relevant scientific vocabulary when introducing new and abstract concepts. Every child has seen a fire, and introducing combustion as fire's "breath" is not a difficult leap to make, despite the scary three syllable word. This book is broken into three chapters. It starts by discussing water and its properties. We then use this foundation to introduce and discuss the concepts of heat and energy. Finally, the natural progression from heat takes us into light, and presents the advanced Physics concept of refraction, the mechanism of rainbows. Professor Cat believes kids are smarter than adults give them credit for, and in this book he hopes to "talk up" them, and embolden them to pursue scientific interests which often intimidate and alienate children.
