Description

All Right Now is the 'tell-all' autobiography by Simon Kirke, drummer in Free and Bad Company, who holds nothing back in describing his adventures with two of the biggest rock bands of the seventies. Born in London but raised in Shropshire, Simon recounts how music ran in his family and he became obsessed with drums as a teenager. After playing in a few local bands he tried his luck in London and after almost a year as a labourer on building sites answered an ad in MM that led to Free. From that moment on life became a roller coaster as Free developed into one of the UK's most popular acts, albeit one of the most unstable, due largely to personality clashes between singer Paul Rogers and bassist Andy Fraser, and guitarist Paul's Kossoff's escalating drug habits. When Free disbanded Simon and Paul Rogers formed the massively successful Bad Company. Signed to Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label and managed by Zep manager Peter Grant, life in Bad Co was never dull and Simon recounts the group's rise and fall with a keen eye for detail: the relationships within the group and with the members of Zeppelin; the six figure royalty cheques; the groupies, and drink and drug fuelled excesses than led to alcoholism and dependency. Now sober, clean and happily married, Simon is a rock'n'roll survivor in the true sense of the word. This is his story - an uncensored look at the reality of life at the sharp end of rock.
