Repair and Redesign of Physiological Systems (Design and Nature)

In this volume the authors highlight the role of engineering and relevant
mathematics in medicine. Like engineering systems, human physiology can wear out or fail to an extent where it requires a clinical interventionist to repair or even redesign the system. There is a long tradition among clinicians of working with engineers and mathematicians. This volume continues that theme, with modern developments. Hence chapters deal with vascular surgery planning, cardiac and vascular devices, immunotherapeutics, plus nasal and dental repair. More generically, some of the chapters relate to preserving the integrity of the human `surface structure, as well as the challenges in computer modeling of the complexities and multiscale nature of the human physiome.
