Public Mobility Systems (Transport Systems and Traffic Engineering)

Public Mobility Systems contains selected papers dealing with mass transport, rapid transit services, carpooling measures, and car sharing strategies. The papers in the book were originally presented at a number of conferences on urban transport, sustainable cities and sustainable development and were published in the proceedings for those conferences. They have been collected into a single coherent volume on the topic. The papers include real case studies from all over the world, including Zagreb, Mexico City, Holy Mecca, and the Gauteng region of South Africa. The book also contains some more theoretical papers on transit systems, spanning general methodology, state of the art and model analysis. It is well known that model development must be coupled with a deep knowledge and understanding of real world phenomena and human experiences. Toward that end, the editor has collected examples of public mobility systems drawn from both international practice and academic theory, in order to lay the groundwork for innovation through mutually shared ideas. Many papers in the book can be used as advanced background reading in graduate courses on transport studies and traffic engineering.
