Towards the Prevention of Cancer

Cancer research leads to gradual improvements in treatment, but research into the prevention of cancer is just as important, as is early detection, as this is more likely to result in effective and curative treatment. Although much is still to be learned through research, great strides have already been made in our understanding of the causes and prevention of numerous cancers through the study of genetic predisposition, epidemiological analysis and investigation of contributory environmental factors. Based on an RSM conference and with contributions from renowned experts in this field, the text examines these important approaches and focuses on early detection and screening for certain common cancers, concluding with a chapter on vaccine-based approaches to cancer prevention.
