This volume breaks new ground in being the first all-color book devoted to the time-honored British goods wagon. In over 200 COLOUR photographs, accompanied by highly informative captions, it covers a broadly representative selection of the wagons which made up the bulk of the goods trains from the formation of British Railways in 1948, until the early 1980s when modern methods of freight handling finally supplanted the tradition vacuum or unbraked wagon, which had dominated the movement of goods by rail for more than 100 years.
