Innovation in Carrier Aviation (Newport Paper)

Innovation in Carrier Aviation examines innovations in carrier aviation and the spread of those innovations from one navy to the navy of a close ally (Royal Navy and U.S. Navy). The innovations are (a) the angled flight deck, (b) the steam catapult, and (c) the mirror and lighted landing aid that enabled pilots to land jet aircraft on a carrier’s short and narrow flight deck.
