The State Museum's collection represents all genres of fine art: icons, applied art of the 13th through 20th centuries, painting, sculpture, numismatics, graphic arts, and folk art. The close to 1,300 images on this CD-ROM summarize the richness of the collection and provide art historians with more than enough material for studying stylistic development. If informal viewers limit their experience to the purely pictorial, so be it; the enigmatic quality of many Russian works has power to capture the imagination and requires no verbal explanation.
