Link: A Critical Journal on the Arts, Issue Ten: Cut

The Baltimore-based arts magazine Link published ten book-length journals to great critical acclaim between 1996 and 2006. Cut, the tenth issue of Link, is devoted to investigating the variegated meanings of the 'cut' in copious cultural corners: from Godard's French new-wave 'jump cut' to the world of wannabe-amputees, the journal's hallmark blend of the sacred and the profane is reinvented in a larger, juicier full-color format. Prompted by a new look at her landmark Cut Piece where audience members are invited to cut the clothes from her body Yoko Ono reflects on the meaning of the seminal work forty years after its original performance; in addition to a collection of works from established and emerging artists, film director John Waters talks about his photography, a growing body of work composed of edited film stills. From haircuts and silhouettes and plastic surgery to the Maryland State Penitentiary, audio clipping, and Baltimore's 'Amazing Half-Boy,' Link cuts to the chase as never before.
