Description
Dangerous Trek In the years following the Civil War, a young Indian, named Kanuga, saves the life of a white boy, named Brewster. This is the beginning of a lifelong friendship. Kanuga falls in love with Brewster's sister, the beautiful Rebecca, then has to leave her and his Apache rancheria when he and Brewster have acquired enough wild mustangs to sell to Fort Sumner in New Mexico. There, they spend the winter, and break even more wild horses for the fort. Later, because they need money to buy their own spreads, they hire on as drovers to drive a herd of longhorns to Abilene. They also hope to find the farm in Saint George, Pottawatomie County, Kansas, belonging to Mary, the white wife of Kanuga's father. On the way to Abilene, and Pottawatomie County, Kanuga and Brewster face an unbelievable double-cross, make new friends, and together battle thieves, cattle rustlers, and murderers. Brewster falls in love with Penny, the red-haired beauty they befriend on the trail, and as Kanuga watches them, he wonders if he'll ever have Rebecca. Will he ever see his beloved father, and Mary, who has been a good mother to him and Brewster? God has guided him and Brewster so far, but Kanuga wonders, in the midst of trouble, if the white-man's God has abandoned him.
