Roger and Hazel Carter, a young English couple on honeymoon, find a bar in a remote Irish village on June 21st in a year during the last quarter of the 20th Century. A Special Event is planned, but can’t begin until the local priest arrives. While they wait, the locals regale them with tales of mysterious adventures involving fairies, leprechauns, phookies and even a visit to the afterlife. The air is regularly polluted by a dog with digestive disorders and, when the local priest’s arrival starts the Event, it’s embarrassing rather than Special. In the meantime, Roger has been conned into spending a fortune on drinks and has been forced to endure revelations about his private life.
