Voices from the Margins

Voices from the Margins exposes the role education plays in determining who among youth become involved in crime. The author utilizes his years of experience as an educator within a juvenile detention facility to filter the lives of hundreds of young inmates through established criminological paradigms; identifying socio-economic class and school failure as key contributors to delinquent behavior. The heart of the book is the life stories told by four former young offenders. As incarcerated students they displayed exceptional promise despite their lives of dysfunction and misery. Their Voices from the Margins generously and candidly tell moving tales of adolescent survival outside of societal norms. Now adults, they reflect on their childhoods, their motivations and their demons while attempting to make sense of who they were and what they have become.
