Penny Thoughts

This series of short articles was written originally by the author as part of an email exchange between him and his brother, debating the various different ways in which they practiced their faith. Brought up in the Catholic tradition, the author was nevertheless an atheist for the better part of his life. Then he realised he was mistaken about the apparent non-existence of God and he is now a regular church-goer. His older brother, however, is convinced that what the church teaches does not conform with what is found in the scriptures, and has tried to persuade his younger brother that he should rely more on what the scriptures say to him personally, rather than on what he is taught by the church.
