Description
Auraicept na n-Eces ("the scholars' primer") is a source of ancient tradition about the ogham alphabet, surviving in a twelfth century version that may extend back to the seventh century. Written in a riddling, allusive style, it makes grand, mythic claims for the origins of Ogham andthe Irish language at the time of the Tower of Babel. It was used extensively by Robert Graves in his book The White Goddess. This Bardic Press Celtic Classic Edition is a facsimile of the original 1917 edition by George Calder, Auraicept na n-éces, The Scholars Primer, being the texts of the ogham tract from the Book of Ballymote and the Yellow Book of Lecan, and the text of the Trefhocul from the Book of Leinster, John Grant, Edinburgh 1917.
