Mystic in the 1950s: Growing Up in a Small Village

Tom Santos’ book recalls the simpler happier days before we worried about swine flu, terrorists and financial failures. It evokes the times when downtown merchants knew everybody’s name, when pin boys worked happily in the Mystic Bowling Alleys on West Main Street, when Mooney’s had the best selection of penny candy and tantalizing aromas from Ella’s Bakery on East Main Street wafted over the flagpole. As for excitement there’s a firsthand account of the disastrous 1960 fire which nostalgic reminiscence of this close knit community.
