Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds: Synthesis, Properties, Analytical Measurements, Occurrence and Biological Effects

This book contains selected papers presented at the Thirteenth International Symposium on Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons, held in 1991 in Bordeaux, France. PAH-related topics addressed include standard reference materials, chemical-physical properties, photo-oxidation and phototransformation, organic synthesis of potent PAHs and PAH metabolites, molecular modelling, and theory applied to carcinogenesis and chromatographic separations. Besides presenting some new and promising analytical techniques, PAH analysis is applied to the study of aquatic systems, geological samples and coal and petroleum matrices. PAH exposure and biomonitoring are also discussed. The reader should find ideas and new directions for PAH research which will lead to research initiatives and new progress in our understanding of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons.
