Description

Within contemporary art, Dicrola's approach is characterised by the constant search for dialogue with the dominant orientation. It is through this critical and dialectic attitude that he was able to establish his own autonomy and produce work known for the originality of its aesthetic quality. Tracing the development of his work, the book illustrates the way in which he took on the different phases of artistic search of the era, "from performance" to conceptual art, from the return to painting to quotationist figuration and from matiériste work on the object to the "ephemeral image of mass media", while pursuing his own poetics of Processus Art which aims to portray the eternal becoming. Expressing himself in relation to the twofold movements of Objectal Art and Conceptual Art, his work strived to render perceptible or visible the decomposition of matter, the persistent instability of form, the dialectics connecting creation and museum iconography, the interaction between the material surface of the painting and the concrete gesture of the painter and then between the unreliability of everyday images in the media and world news reporting. The meaning of his Processus Art is embodied in the idea that everything is flow, metamorphosis, evolution, alteration, change. Each thing is an entity in the course of actualization or disappearing, epiphany or loss. In other words, everything is continuous creation and continuous death, existing only between tension and fall, virtual and concrete. Thus Dicrola seeks to conceptualize becoming, to turn it into a tangible experience, the present of art being but the pure immanence of a work finally delivered of its aspiration to eternity.
