The moral attitude towards suicide changed notably during Late Antiquity - Christian rejection of the practice considered honorable during classical times is clearly demonstrated in the writings of Augustine (354-430). This study presents Augustine's suicide theory in its historical context, contrasts it with other late antique opinions and places its main focus on the literary depictions of suicide in Latin works of the 4th and 5th centuries.
