Variabilities in Stars and Galaxies (Reviews in Modern Astronomy)

The fifth yearbook of the Astronomische Gesellschaft (AG) contains eighteen reviews and highlight contributions dedicated to the topic "Variabilities inStars and Galaxies". The contributions deal with time-dependent phenomena of a wide range of astronomical objects, both stellar (for example, galactic cataclysmic variables, symbiotic stars, luminous blue variables, and novae) and extragalactic (for example, active galactic nuclei and quasars). Different physical mechanicsm causing the variability, including pulsation, accretion, and dramatic eruptive events connected with mass loss, are discussed.
