This book is about the cellular mechanisms evolved by human beings to protect their genetic materials from genotoxic damage, and its numerous pathological consequences, including cancer and hereditary diseases. The various DNA repair pathways are part of a much larger picture of intracellular metabolisms, which includes gene expression, chromosome duplication, signal transduction, cell cycling, genomic evolution, genetic mobility, and cell death.
