Integrating Truth-Space Diagram and Fuzzy Logic: A Novel Approach to Assess Linguistic Rules

Process industries are facing an increasingly challenging environment due to the highly competitive markets, dwindling resources, increasing demand for better quality products and stringent environmental regulations. To handle this, major changes are occurring in the process industry including revamps of the existing processes and emergence of new, sophisticated processes. Process management becomes very important in this situation to ensure a safe, economic, and environmental-friendly process. Traditional approaches to process management like expert systems, phenomenological models etc. are not adequate. This book discusses a novel approach to manage the process by autonomously generating linguistic cause-and-effect rules from the process data. A new concept of Truth-Space Diagram has been proposed and combined with fuzzy logic to assess these linguistic rules. Techniques to incorporate the dynamic and temporal features of the process in the fuzzy model have also been developed.
