Metal containing compounds as antimalarial agents: Malaria remains one of sourges of the 21st century, with hundreds of millions afflicted by this disease each year. The overwhelming majority of fatalities occur in Southern Africa and most are children under the age of five. As resistance to chloroquine and other known drugs increases, the need for new, novel compounds is urgent. This book contains details of a project aimed at developing novel metal containing antimalarial agents. It covers the theory behind the ideas, the synthesis of the compounds and the preliminary biological testing of these compounds. This book is written in the style of a thesis and is intended for a reader schooled in chemistry. This book is a small contribution to a crucial field.Over the last decade there has been a significant in research funding in this area, but the battle is far from over.
