Right to Equality & Justice in Gender: The Constitution of India and Women

The Indian Constitution adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November, 1949 is a comprehensive document enshrining various principles of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. These objectives specified in the preamble and elsewhere form part of basic structure of The Indian Constitution. The fundamenta1.law of the land assures the dignity of the individuals irrespective of their sex, community or place of birth. India is a country with rich culture and heritage. It is the abode if many religions and philosophies. Secularism has been one of the features of Indian life from the time immemorial. Perhaps India is the only country in the world which permits persons belonging to different religions to follow their own personal laws based on the religion. Thus in respect of personal matters like marriage, divorce, succession, adoption and maintenance, different personal laws are followed, depending on the religion of the person.
