Herbal Gel for Rheumatoid arthritis: Evaluation of a gel formulated with Guggal, Turmeric and Oil of Wintergreen

The present research has been undertaken with the aim to formulate and evaluate the herbal gel containing Boswellia serrata extract,Curcuma longa extract,Oil of Wintergreen.The gel formulation was designed by using alcoholic extract of Boswellia serrata,Curcuma longa,and evaluated using physiological measurements.The gel was prepared by using various natural and synthetic polymer bases and natural polymer bases.Among them Carbopol 934 and Carrageenan based gels has given better gel formation. The gel was prepared by using Carbopol 934, Boswellia serrata extract, Curcuma longa extract, Oil of Wintergreen Methyl paraban, Propyl paraben and required amount of distilled water.Utility of gel based drug delivery systems are being employed in recent past for therapeutic effectiveness of topical applied drugs. Topical route was selected because of the lethal effect of oil of Wintergreen when given orally,and to maximize the drug concentration at the site of action.The trandermal delivery of the drug is limited by the barrier properties of the barrier properties of the skin that needs inclusion of penetration enhancers in the formulation.
