Gender Differences and Letter Writing: Gender Differences in EFL Students' Letter Writing and Teachers' Identification of Male/Female Language Features

The issue of gender, as a language variable, has been the focus of study for many years. Knowing about differences between male and female in language use could help teachers and syllabus designers develop better instructions and learning materials for learners. However, it seems that this crucial variable has not gained much attention in the realm of foreign language research, especially in writing skill. Since writing skill in foreign language and especially in academic setting is of significance, much more attention should be paid to the issue of gender. In addition, considering cultural differences between native and foreign language, it can be found that this variable plays a significant role in learning a foreign language. Given the importance of gender in language learning and teaching, this book tries to demonstrate the differences between EFL student’s writing and teachers’ perceptions of male and female writing. The present book provides valuable information for methodologists, syllabus designers, material developers, teachers and learners.
