The international theme for World Wetlands Day 2013 is ‘Wetlands take care of water’. Groundwater recharge, water quality improvement and flood alleviation are the important hydrological functions of wetlands. Wetland macrophytes play the vital role to improve the quality of water. Wetlands provide us food, drinking water, mental peace. Wetlands are getting polluted by the discharge of toxic substances mainly from human society. The wastewater of wetlands is purified by wetland macrophytes.
