Inter-Sectoral Approaches to Improve the Mid Day Meal Program of India

“The National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education” (NP-NSPE), commonly known as the Mid Day Meal Programme (MDMP) is India’s largest school feeding programme with a huge budget head provided by the Central Government in assistance with the state governments. However, there is an urgent need to develop synergies and linkages with government sectors, public-private partnerships and other developmental programmes for addressing operational and logistic related issues for the holistic improvement of the MDMP. The present book focuses on the problems faced by the MDMP staff and offers solutions which have been derived on the basis of various Health System Research methods. Several recommendations for different areas such as infrastructure and sanitation, human resource management, MDM menu and recipes, convergence with other sectors for improvement, monitoring and evaluation under MDM department have been suggested. This book will be useful resource material for public health as well as social development.
