This stunning volume presents 208 Hellenistic sculptures created between the period of Alexander the Great and the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, now held in public and private collections across Greece, Europe and the Near East. The volume includes a discussion of stylistic developments over three centuries and a look at the interaction of Greek, Roman and Near Eastern cultures and art but the joy of this book is its collection of full-page photographs, mostly in colour, of sculptures (many original, some Roman copies) followed by a comprehensive and extensive catalogue.
