Very sophisticated pressure casting equipment, such as High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) machines with hydraulics hot control,Vertical Squeeze Casting machines and various Semisolid Casting machines are used in modern found ries today. Nevertheless, the increasing geometrical complexity and technical requirements of light metal pressurecastings have rendered process stability and castability a permanent issue for foundry men. The castings shouldbe simultaneously light, strong, ductile, weldable, heattreatable, and pressure tight. In order toachieve these goals a processchainapproachcomprising a significantmaterialssciencecomponent must beappliedtoaidproduct, alloy, andprocessimprovement. The contentsofthisbookinvolve just such a processchainapproach. In additiontotheprinciplesofpressurecasting, theeffectsofmeltquality, alloycomposition, fillingconditions, andeven post-processingaspects such asheattreatmentareaddressed. Parameters affectingprocessstabilityandproductivityare also discussed.
