This interdisciplinary volume focuses on the impact of specific drug classes on human functioning and quality of life. It opens with a discussion of the effects of drugs on behaviour and the research methodology employed to collect data. Further chapters cover the effects of prescription and, where appropriate, over-the-counter drugs used in several areas of medicine: antihypertensives, antihistamines, psychiatric drugs, anticonvulsants in children, and drugs in the treatment of the elderly. The concluding chapter considers the use of drugs in medical treatment from a humanitarian point of view.
