Establishment of Herbal Monograph: Indigenious Indian Medicinal Plants

Herbal medicines are in great demand in the developed as well as developing countries for primary healthcare because of their biological activities, higher safety margin and lesser cost. They are number of medicinal plants in Ayurveda which required extusive study. The qualities of herbs depend on various factors, hence it is essential to establish herbal monograph and standardize the herbal drug. The plants selected for establishment of herbal monograph were based on its availability and its various therapeutic activities in various ailments mentioned in Ayurveda. Our objective of the research work was to establish herbal monograph based on pharmacognostic, phytochemicals and pharmacological parameters. This publication is most timely. I believe this comprehensive text book will be of use and great value to the students, academicians, researchers, teachers and herbal drug industry.
