In 2001, the Group of Policy Advisers where asked by the President of the European Commission to set up the Group of Economic Analysis (GEA) to help the Commission make the best and most informed possible decisions in economic matters. The Group of Economic Analysis gathers some 25 top EU and non-EU economists in meetings three to four times a year with the aim of discussing, together with other relevant commissioners, selected economic issues.
