Description
This book entitled “Medicinal Plants of Bangladesh, Volume-III: Antidiabetic and Antimicrobial Principles†by Rahman et al., is the third volume in the series of books published from our natural product research group. It describes the isolation of an antidiabetic principle eclalbasaponin II from Eclipta prostrata L. which exhibited potential blood sugar lowering effect in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. It also includes the isolation of two other secondary metabolites, eclalbasaponin I and stigmasterol from this herb. Another comprehensive study with Amoora cucullata Roxb. expands the perspective of this book. Successive chromatographic separation and purification of the hexane extract of its stem bark provided friedelin, stigmasterol, β-stiosterol, betulinic acid and caffeic acid. The antimicrobial potential of both the plants is also brought to light here. This book is very unique in elaboration of spectral analysis and will provide very practical information to conduct chemical and biological studies with medicinal plants. The chapters of this book will serve as a guide to the fellow of Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology and Traditional Systems of Medicines.
