Computer-Assisted Tissue Engineering for Dental Applications: Multi-Object Reconstruction Technique

In this work, we propose a new and an integrated system to assist clinicians obtain trust-able results upon which they can decide accurate diagnosis and properly plan for treatment. The integrated system is composed of two main modules: 3-D reconstruction module and meshing and finite element module. The 3-D reconstruction module provides a robust means for visualization of different anatomical structures including the inner layers. The advantage of this tool is that it can generate the 3-D models using ordinary CT slices rather than μ-CT scans, which in turn makes it clinically applicable. The output of the first module can then be fed directly to the second module to build the mesh models and apply finite element analysis.
