Evaluation of Carbon Capture and Storage as a Best Available Technique: Analysis of the economic and environmental feasibility for its deployment across industrial sectors

The perceived benefit of CCS technology is in its ability to remove carbon dioxide emissions from industrial sources of pollution. The objective of this study was to further the understanding of its potential application in industry by assessing whether it can be considered a Best Available Technique (BAT). Under Article 15 of the European Industrial Emissions Directive (2010/75/EU), BAT is to be given a more prominent role in the regulation of installations bound by its requirements. With this the need for operators to justify chosen technologies as BAT is enshrined in EU legislation.
