In this book the author looks at India not through any ideological prism but a hard penetrating and in his words 'irreverent' look. He attempts to understand its strength and weakness, threats to its development and indeed to its very continuance as a united nation, the sham hypocrisy that affects so much of its contemporary life and the major problems that beset it. While each chapter centres on a particular problem, the author looks behind to its genesis and to its possible solution, and above all to what needs to be done. Behind his irreverence, and occasional cynicism, lies an optimist who strongly believes that contemporary India, given a modicum of enlightened leadership and a strong dose of common sense, can once again rise to heights scaled in the past.
