This book focuses on the socio-economic transformation among the weaker sections in society and examines how their socio-economic conditions have changed over time, with due attention to the structural transformation in Gujarat. Part I consists of articles analysing the status of the backward classes; Part II includes papers dealing with the process of polarization and its effect on the weaker sections in urban and rural Gujarat and Part III deals with the position of women.
