This volume is principally concerned with the notion, definition and development of identity politics in South Asia, former Yugoslavia, and parts of the Arab world. Each essay exemplifies some of the the key features of recent scholarship on how individuals and groups negotiate the complex world of identities. Some juxtapose the historical-institutional approach with other competing approaches in contemporary analysis.
