Women, Technology and Development

WOMEN, TECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT is a compendium of sixteen chapters covering topics ranging from women health issues to utilization of renewable sources of energy and employment generation. It deals with the strategies for the technical, economic and social empowerment of women and their overall development in the current situation, with emphasis on the role of technologies. Women have unique health care needs and are responsible for health care of both themselves and their family. The importance of nutritional and medicinal values of traditional food plants, safe drinking water and control of diseases caused by vectors are hence presented. Information on green technologies viz. bio fertilizers and bio pesticides would help women in practicing safe agriculture. Chapters on biogas and solar energy would educate them on the use of these renewable sources of energy for cooking, lighting, electricity generation and other applications. The activities namely sericulture, mushroom cultivation, vermicomposting, development of biopesticidal formulations, fodder production and conservation and processing of non-timber forest products could be of use in enhancing their income.
