Computational Mathematics

The 15th Semester of the Stefan Banach International Mathematical Center (February-May 1980) was devoted to Computational Mathematics. The main topics discussed during the Semester were: construction and analysis of mathematical models, numerical methods, computational complexity, methods for solving ill-posed problems, construction of packages of programs. As many as 191 mathematicians from 14 countries, among them many recognized specialists, contributed to this international research session.

The 13 volume of the Banach Center Publications contains papers prepared by the participants of the Semester in connection with problems considered in the course of it. A large number of the results were stimulated by the informal discussions, lectures, seminars and the unique atmosphere of the Banach Center.

The editors of this volume hope that it will be of some interest to specialists in numerical analysis and applied mathematics.
